The World Cup is a global event that attracts all the spotlights. This one, Qatar 2022, has had particular facts that makes it special, and of course The World Cup and Visual Arts merge together in so different ways that may explain some of the awaken emotions we have experienced.
For example, designing the 8 stadiums specifically for the tournament (Al Bayt, Lusail, Ahmad Bin Ali, Al Janoub, Al Thumama, Education City, Khalifa International and 974 Stadium), reflecting the lifestyle of Qatar early days and modern life in this country.
Also designing two match balls (Al Rihla (the Journey)-for the first stages and Al Hilm (the Dream)-for semifinals and final) Both, evoking concepts experienced by the participants in the World Cup (the Journey and the Dream).
Two social claims had also contributed to conform the emotional environment of this World Cup: 1) The Women human rights and the standings of the Irani government; and 2) The LGTB+ rights and the social expressions during the tournament with the “One Love” campaign.
But one story that is worth to be written for future generations is the Morocco Football Team. First time in history that an African Football Team reaches the semifinals. How does this story relate to Visual Arts? It relates on the Heart, Passion and Emotion they communicate during a match, the same way an artist communicates through an art piece.
They say you should spend money on your shoes and your bed, because if you’re not in one, then you’re in the other.
And even if ‘they’ turns out to be the marketing department at Common Projects, there is some common sense to it. Shoes are, after all, the foundation of any outfit.
