DIEGO RIVERA (Complete name: Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez) Painter

Born: 1887
Died: 1957
Relevant facts: Muralist. His artwork is full of historical encounters and social protest in order to generate a social consciousness on social inequality.

JOSÉ MARÍA VELASCO

Born: 1840
Died: 1912
Relevant facts: Landscaper. Student of the San Carlos Academy, where Eugenio Landesio, Italian artist, was his teacher.
Artwork:

Valle de México, Catedral de Oaxaca, Cañada de Metlac, Valle de Oaxaca, Ahuehuete, Popocatépetl e Iztaccihuatl.

DR. ATL (Gerardo Murillo Cornado)

Born:  1875
Died:  1964
Relevant facts: Landscaper. His nickname (Dr. Atl) was taken from this Ph in Philosophy studies (atl in Náhuatl means Water). Painter, vulcanologist, writer, and journalist. He created the “Atl-colors”.
Artwork: Erupción en apogeo, Paricutín, La sombra del Popo, La Nube, Retrato de Luis G. Urbina, Píhuamo.

FERMÍN REVUELTAS

Born: 1902
Died: 1935
Relevant facts: Muralist and Stained glass artist. He lived in San Antonio, Texas, where he witnessed the workers protests; when he returned to Mexico he joined the movement of the Outdoors Painting Schools and adopted the aesthetical proposals of the stridentist movement. Died at 34 years old by a heart attack.
Artwork: Stained Glass art pieces: Centro Escolar Revolución Library in Mexico City; “Corazón de niño robado”; “Justicia Social” (Centro Escolar Revolución in Ciudad Juárez); Stained glass at the former “Colonia” Hospital (Col. Cuauhtémoc -IMSS offices).

JUAN O´GORMAN

Born: 1905
Died: 1982
Relevat facts: Architect and painter (muralist). His father, and Irish painter (Cecil Crawford O´Gorman); his brother a historian (Edmundo O´Gorman, author of “Invensión de América”). Considered as the last representative of the Mexican Muralist movement.
Artwork: Murals at the UNAM Library (4,000 m2 covered with natural stones); Historia de la Aviación (AICM mural); Alegoría de las comunicaciones (SCT mural); Retablo de la Independencia (Museo Nacional de Historia); The Anahuacalli (museum);  El Requiem (painting).
